Building a Positive Classroom Community

​

In our class, we focus daily on building strong social-emotional skills, with a special emphasis on conflict management. Students learn to express their feelings and needs using “I” statements and work through disagreements using The Clean-Up Process — a tool that encourages accountability, empathy, and resolution.

At the start of the year, students collaborate to create a classroom contract that outlines:

• How they want to be treated,

• How they will treat others, and

• What kind of classroom environment they want to build together.

 

This contract becomes a guiding document for us throughout the year, and we revisit it regularly to reinforce our shared commitments.

We’ll use this theme to help students strengthen their collaboration skills and build a classroom culture rooted in respect, responsibility, and unity.
